ACE Solar, Resonant Energy complete solar + storage system for Massachusetts community farm
Resonant Energy and ACE Solar have completed a solar + storage system for the Newton Community Farm in Massachusetts. Newton Community Farm places an emphasis on sustainability, and now the site can power its operations with renewable energy.
For Newton Community Farm, this solar project is the culmination of many years of work and persistence from its dedicated staff, supporters, volunteers and board of directors.
“We model and teach sustainable farming for the community. Running on solar allows us to further reduce our carbon footprint while stewarding this beautiful open space, the last working farm in Newton,” notes Sue Bottino, Executive Director at Newton Community Farm.
Conversations about adding solar on the perfectly south-facing barn roof began many years ago, and Newton Community Farm first engaged Resonant Energy in 2019 to look at solar feasibility and financial analysis. Costs for the solar array are covered largely by a Climate Smart Agriculture Program grant from the Mass Department of Agriculture.
The 10.8-kW solar system and 16-kWh battery backup system should allow Newton Community Farm to run its entire operation on sustainable energy.
“We are honored to have been selected by the City of Newton to install this system,” says Nick Moore, Project Manager with ACE Solar. “While we install many residential, commercial, and municipal systems of varying sizes, being able to help a community with a passion for sustainability make the switch to solar holds a special place in our heart.”
