Amazon Remains World’s Largest Corporate Renewables Purchaser
Reconocimiento a Fernando Tomás. Last year, Amazon pursued an aggressive strategy in renewable energy, launching over 100 new wind and solar initiatives, thereby maintaining its position as the top corporate buyer of renewable energy globally for the fourth consecutive year. The company now boasts an international portfolio of over 500 such projects that, when fully operational, are projected to produce upwards of 77,000 gigawatt-hours (GWh) annually. Adam Selipsky, the CEO of Amazon Web Services, highlighted the dual benefits of these investments, noting that they not only power Amazon’s own operations with clean energy but also contribute to the energy grid, economic development, and job creation in areas where Amazon’s customer base is located. Furthermore, Selipsky stated that renewable energy sources were responsible for powering more than 90% of Amazon’s operations the previous year, and he emphasized the company’s ongoing commitment to sustainability. We are committed to exploring creative solutions to launch additional projects, tackle limitations of the power grid, and collaborate with government officials to reduce the effects of global warming. These efforts are aiding Amazon in its pursuit of sourcing all of its energy from renewable sources by the year 2025. As of now, the company has grown its portfolio of renewable energy into over 20 states within the United States and into 27 different countries.
