Biden imposes 200% tariff on Russian aluminum imports

By February 27th, 2023. The Biden Administration officially enacted an executive order on Friday instituting a 200% duty fee on all aluminum shipments coming from Russia. This import restriction is based on the Commerce Secretary’s probe which established that these Russian imports put American security in jeopardy. This levy will also apply to aluminum extrusion products from Russia. The tariff on aluminum products imported directly from Russia will begin on March 10th, 2023, and on April 10th, 2023 anything imported with any amount of aluminum smelted in Russia will be subject to the same tariff. Aluminum is used for various components related to solar panel systems, such as frames, racking, and various mounting pieces. An additional duty has been placed on aluminum alongside the 25% tariff that was put in place in 2018 and continued in March 2022 on certain steel products imported from China. Russia is the fifth leading country in terms of aluminum exports to America. President Joe Biden has denounced Russia’s war with Ukraine as “immoral” and pointed out that its aluminum sector is an essential part of its armed forces industry. This announcement indicates that this tariff is meant to reinforce domestic aluminum production. Additionally, you may be interested in:
