Bloomberg, Orsted Announce 15-Year Renewables PPA

Ørsted has entered into an agreement to supply Bloomberg with 80 megawatts of clean energy produced by the under-construction Mockingbird Solar Center, a large-scale 471-megawatt facility located near Paris, Texas. This marks Ørsted’s biggest solar initiative in the United States and the first time it is integrating environmental conservation measures by safeguarding the indigenous tallgrass prairies. Four corporate clients, including Bloomberg, Covestro, and Royal DSM, are purchasing electricity from the Mockingbird Solar Center. The deal has led to the complete acquisition of the Mockingbird initiative’s 471-megawatt capacity. A notable element of the initiative is the pact between Ørsted and The Nature Conservancy, which aims to protect almost 1,000 acres of the endangered, indigenous tallgrass prairie located close to the project. Ørsted has acquired a majority stake in the Smiley-Woodfin National Prairie Grassland and intends to transfer ownership to The Nature Conservancy after the project becomes operational. “Ørsted’s dedication to sustainable clean energy development at the Mockingbird Solar Center shows that environmental conservation and renewable energy can harmoniously coexist,” states Monica Testa from Ørsted. We are delighted to collaborate with Bloomberg to help achieve their environmental sustainability ambitions, and it’s encouraging to witness ongoing commitment among businesses to develop renewable energy responsibly, ensuring it aligns with ecological considerations. The Mockingbird Solar Center adds to the company’s current presence in Texas, encompassing a total of 12 projects related to wind, solar, and energy storage that are either fully operational or in the process of being built throughout the region.
