Congress begins process to repeal Biden’s 2-year pause on solar panel tariffs

A proposal to nullify President Joe Biden’s 2022 two-year restriction on new solar tariffs has now been officially initiated under the Congressional Review Act (CRA). This morning, the House Ways and Means Committee gave the nod to the CRA, while Swift Current Energy is in the process of setting up solar power in Illinois. Rich Saal of Swift Current Energy is given recognition. A Congressional Review Act (CRA) permits Congress to overturn federal regulations by an uncomplicated majority vote. In June 2022, the Biden Administration declared a two-year hold on any new duties resulting from an AD/CVD circumvention investigation that the Dept was handling. The Department of Commerce aims to guarantee that the United States has a substantial enough amount of solar panels available to produce the necessary amount of electricity as the domestic production of them increases. An AD/CVD investigation was initiated to determine whether Chinese businesses were using Cambodia, Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam as a technique to bypass the current tariffs against Chinese solar imports, and as a result, solar product supply from those countries ceased. At least 80% of the solar panels set up in the US originated from the four nations located in Southeast Asia.
