Dominion Energy Virginia Puts Its Largest Battery Storage Facility Into Operation

Dominion Energy Virginia has recently launched their most expansive battery storage facility yet. The Dry Bridge Battery Energy Storage System, located in Chesterfield County, is capable of storing up to 20 MW of electricity, which is enough to provide electricity to 5,000 homes for a period of four hours. Ed Baine, president of Dominion Energy Virginia, expressed passion for battery storage in relation to the company’s commitment to providing their customers with reliable and affordable energy sources that are environmentally friendly. As our collection of battery storage devices continues to expand, it will allow us to continue providing the grid with greener energy sources while upholding the quality of service our patrons anticipate. Following several other battery storage projects, Dominion’s Dry Bridge facility has been finished. In August, the firm began construction of a 50 megawatt battery storage facility at Dulles International Airport. The firm also revealed their pilot projects at Darbytown Power Station and Virginia State University in September which intended to investigate alternative options to the familiar lithium-ion batteries that last for longer.
