Earthjustice and SEIA Challenge Grid Operator Rules that Restrict Renewable Energy
It is Tuesday, January 22nd, 2022, and the stock market closes at 218. A statement has been released to the public. Earthjustice filed a suit with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission this day on behalf of the Solar Energy Industries Association, protesting a regulation that forbids renewable sources from delivering ancillary services. Midcontinent Independent System Operator, Inc. provides services that assist grid operators in sustaining a dependable electricity network, balancing supply and demand, guaranteeing reliability in extreme weather events, and aiding with the restoration of power system after a power system failure. The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission only allows MISO to supply ancillary services, and forbids wind, solar, and battery-hybrid resources to do so. MISO provides electricity to more than 22 million people spread across 15 US states and the Canadian province of Manitoba. It is anticipated that the MISO region will experience a dramatic rise in the production of power from wind and solar sources in the near future. It has been demonstrated that hybrid resources utilizing wind power, solar energy, and battery storage can provide supplementary services.
