ENGIE Completes Sun Valley Battery Storage

ENGIE’s Sun Valley Battery Storage project in Hill County, Texas, boasting 100 MW capacity, has been officially activated. This project ranks as one of ENGIE’s most significant utility-scale storage facilities in the U.S. to date. The company’s existing 250 MW Sun Valley Solar project, which started operating last year, shares a location with this. Dave Carroll, the chief renewable officer of ENGIE North America, stated, “We have over 2 GW of power storage already being constructed in Texas and other states, which are set to be commissioned by 2024.” These projects combined will help ENGIE achieve its worldwide goal of installing 10 GW of energy storage by 2030. The company states that the storage system is capable of delivering electricity to the grid as required, including catering to the highest energy demands of around 10,000 conventional homes. The charging of the system can be accomplished not only by the adjacent solar facility but also from the expanded grid. The initiative in Sun Valley Storage comprises of 308 storage cabinets for batteries and took more than 3,500 work days to finish, utilizing both local and regional specialized laborers.
