FirstEnergy Subsidiary Completes Solar Site at Fort Martin Power Station
FirstEnergy’s subsidiary, Mon Power, has successfully finished the construction of its solar site at Fort Martin Power Station in Maidsville, West Virginia. This project is just the first in a series of five planned by Mon Power and its affiliated company, Potomac Edison. Close to 50,000 panels on an approximately 80-acre piece of land have the capacity to produce up to 18.9 MW per hour, according to the company. In the end, the five locations are anticipated to produce a combined total of 50 MW. “We take pride in accomplishing our objective of constructing this solar site with the help of local union workers,” said Jim Myers of First Energy. Offering customers the voluntary choice to use renewable energy is crucial because it’s a significant economic factor for West Virginia. It not only attracts new industry to the state but also retains existing businesses that need a certain percentage of their power from sustainable sources. The approval to build the Fort Martin solar site and two other sites in Rivesville of Marion County and Marlowe of Berkeley County was granted to these corporations by the West Virginia Public Service Commission in August. The construction of the sites is anticipated to be finished by the end of this year.
