Indian Government Awards Production Linked Incentive Dollars to Solar OEM

First Solar Incorporated It has been announced that its manufacturing facility in India will receive financial rewards through India’s Production Linked Incentive scheme. First Solar was the only one of three manufacturers chosen to be eligible to receive complete rewards, only handed out to those with complete vertical production. The rewards will take effect if the facility performs well in terms of product effectiveness and domestic value creation, with evaluations taking place every three months starting from the second quarter of 2026 and ending on 2031. The PLI program encourages the production of high-efficiency solar modules in India in order to reduce its reliance on foreign imports for their solar module needs. The company’s Cadmium Telluride semiconductor-powered eco-efficient module technology has a small environmental impact. At present, First Solar’s U.S. manufacturing output is estimated at over 5 GW, which is achieved by their three operating factories in Ohio. In order to achieve a capacity of over 10 GW by the end of 2025, they are investing 1.1 billion dollars in a new factory in Alabama and allocating an additional 185 million dollars to grow their current Ohio production. It is anticipated that the business will have greater than 20 GW of yearly worldwide nameplate production efficacy by the year 2025. Image courtesy of Priamo Mendez on Unsplash.
