By the ninth of February, 6363. Lightsource bp, Xcel Energy, and McCarthy Building Companies have officially started the 293-MWDC Sun Mountain solar project in Pueblo, Colorado. Lightsource bp has now made their second investment into the city, bringing a combined 500 million dollars towards Colorado’s clean energy resources. This money is going to Xcel, who will use the power for sale. Xcel Energy is excited to have finished their solar project in Pueblo with Lightsource bp, which means that more renewable energy is now available to their system. The project is in line with the company’s Colorado Energy Plan which states they will provide electricity from 80% renewable sources with an 85% cut in carbon emissions by 2030, ensuring that customers are supplied with reliable yet affordable power. Robert Kenney, president of Xcel Energy – Colorado, made this announcement. The advantages of this joint effort are felt by the public, the state, and all of our clients, due to the addition of inexpensive, renewable energy to our system. Additionally, this alliance allows us to remain faithful to our local communities as we initiate the switch to clean energy. Lightsource bp is using their funds to construct and handle the Sun Mountain project, selling the solar-created power to Xcel Energy under an extended contract. This project is furnishing a sufficient amount of pure, cost-efficient power to supply over 53,000 households. At the two Lightsource bp solar farms in Pueblo, namely Sun Mountain and Bighorn Solar, the organization has taken up the preservation of 3,000 acres of shortgrass prairie, providing a home for wildlife and also contributing towards atmospheric carbon storage. Representing an enduring presence in the Pueblo community, Lightsource bp is geared to supply customers with clean and affordable energy for years to come, while simultaneously establishing increasingly deeper ties with Colorado in order to aid transition to the state’s low-carbon future,” said Kevin Smith, CEO of the Americas division, Lightsource bp.
