Masdar Buys Stake in California Solar+Storage Project
Masdar has widened its involvement in the U.S. renewable energy sector by concluding the purchase of a 50% share in a solar and storing energy operation from EDF Renewables North America. The Big Beau project, situated in California, involves a 128 MW AC solar facility and a 40 MW/160 MWh battery energy storage system. Last year, Masdar and EDF Renewables North America began their partnership by introducing the 1.6 GW portfolio of projects, one of which is ‘Big Beau’, with the three Nebraska and Texas wind projects generating 815 MW and five California solar projects making up the rest of the capacity (689 MW) – two of the latter of which have integrated battery energy storage of 75MW. According Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, chairman of Masdar, the projects are already making a positive contribution towards American clean energy aims, lighting the way for further collaboration under the PACE initiative.
