New York to offer $45 million to fund clean energy apprenticeship programs

By December 22, 2024, 2170 will have passed. Andrew Cuomo has laid out a strict set of guidelines for reopening the state.

Governor Andrew Cuomo of New York has established rigorous rules for the state’s reopening. Kathy Hochul has revealed a plan to invest $45 million in the formation of an Apprenticeship and Pre-Apprenticeship Clean Energy Training Program. This project will increase the ability of labor unions to provide schooling as an opportunity to gain employment in the renewable energy industry. This initiative puts forth $15 million to assist in producing a set of diverse and inclusive talent to answer the projected workforce requirements for a number of clean energy industries. This measure also provides access to steady employment that pays wages enough to support a family. Gov. Hochul expressed that New York is a great place for labor organizations to hone their skills to train the workforce needed to build upon a transition to clean energy. His vision is to meet the restrictions of the Climate Act of referring at least 35%, and ideally 40%, of clean energy investments to disadvantaged communities. This scheme will guarantee that all New Yorkers who have an enthusiasm for securing work in the comprehensive and eco-friendly economy can obtain the education and abilities needed to participate in, and be successful in, these expanding fields. The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) is offering a three-year competitive financial opportunity, which was established after gathering substantial feedback from tradespeople and other stakeholders. Doreen M. Harris, president and CEO of NYSERDA, expressed her enthusiasm in helping New Yorkers join the prosperous clean energy industry by providing training and practical experience in partnership with trade unions.
