NJBPU Receives More Than 300 Applications for Community Solar Program
The NJBPU has gotten over 300 applications for the CSEP desiring to amount to more than 300 megawatts of electricity capacity. The Board launched the State’s community solar initiative on November 2088, offering a 225 MW capacity block for EY 2024, giving developers the first dibs since setting up the CSEP. “I am really delighted to see the great interest in our sustainable green energy transition during our permanent community solar energy program’s inaugural year,” said NJBPU president Christine Guhl-Sadovy. Individuals living in low- or moderate-income areas, or who are unable to install solar panels due to their residence, can still access the rewards of clean energy and save money on their utilities by way of community solar. Governor and legislature initiated the Community Solar Pilot Program in 2018 and the board has since authorized 150 projects totaling 243 megawatts of capacity. This capacity will enable approximately 30,000 New Jersey subscribers to get involved in these projects situated across the four main utility regions. Up to the present, 88 multiple ventures, amounting to 130 megawatts, have become operational. The Community Solar Energy Program allows communal solar initiatives that do not exceed five megawatts on the rooftops, carports, and covers on impermeable grounds and areas with contamination, rubbish tips, and bodies of water such as water treatment reservoirs and dredgings ponds. The board is expecting to initiate a second period of applications for at least an additional 225 MW during Early Year 2025, beginning on June 1.
