Raymond Implements Energy Storage and Generating Systems at Warehouse
Attribution: Oak Ridge National Laboratory. The Raymond Corporation has completed the installation of an extensive battery energy storage system (BESS), a solar-powered microgrid, and an energy management system for their distribution facility in Greene, New York. Jennifer de Souza from the Raymond Corporation observed that the introduction of onsite energy storage has provided valuable understanding of how such systems can effectively reduce the heightened energy needs that arise when charging advanced power sources like lithium in the field of material handling. We’re enthusiastic about showcasing an innovative energy storage system and approach for managing energy in warehouses that will lower energy expenses for those who own these facilities. In March 2019, the energy storage initiative was launched in collaboration with Binghamton University, supported by a $1 million grant from the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority. The initial stage saw the setup of a 200 kilowatt photovoltaic system along with a 250 kilowatt battery energy storage system at Raymond’s logistics warehouse. The project’s middle phases focused on creating and showcasing set-ups for high-tech lithium-ion battery chargers that use unique software to manage the charging process for both the grid and microgrids. Currently, Raymond is in the process of setting up a cutting-edge rooftop system that operates before the utility meter at its parts distribution center in Syracuse, New York.
