Solar and storage industry players launch equitable workforce training program

The initiation of the Building Equity in Solar Training (BEST) initiative, a nationwide program for education and preparing of personnel, is now active. This program will offer the expertise and permission necessary for a successful position in solar energy, energy storage, and EV charging. BEST will be conducted by notable entities GRID Alternatives, Solar Energy International (SEI), Jobs for the Future, Elevate, and Community and Economic Development Association of Cook County (CEDA) Illinois. Utopia Hill, head of Reactivate – a partnership between Lafayette Square and Invenergy – united several organizations to form BEST and will be launching it in Chicago. This programme will empower people and their communities, plus it will collaborate with companies to make certain that people graduating the renewable energy training are properly hired in the field. In other words, this will make the renewable energy employment more akin to the national demographic. BEST works to not only supply employment, but also establish enduring profession paths with salaries that can support a family. The program promotes excellence and dedicates itself to a standard of equity. It is goal-oriented and prioritises outcomes. This involves collaborating with Elevate and other local organizations to ensure that people from economically disadvantaged or unfavored situations can gain access to the necessary resources to receive their instruction, land a job that yields a livable income, and cope with any struggles they might experience. This aid comes with subsidized sessions to learn, tutoring, help paying for transportation costs, taking care of childcare costs, and overseeing the development with other types of help. Individuals joining the program range from women, people of color, people with legal issues, and those from energy exchange communities. The educational content was developed jointly with veteran solar program trainers such as GRID, SEI, and Jobs for the Future. BEST utilizes a combination of commonly used professional courses to offer certifications like North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP) Installer Certification, OSHA 30, First Aid/CPR and other sorts of operator training, general technical instruction, and custom-made curriculum specifically in tune with the target demographic’s requirements (e.g.).
