United Natural Foods Corporation UNFI has finished building the 3.2 MW roof-mounted solar array at its Howell, N.J. distribution center which is the company’s eighth such installation and the largest one to date. Comprised of 7,171 solar panels, the rooftop array creates enough renewable electricity to meet the annual energy demands of the Howell distribution center. PowerFlex, a provider of solar, storage and electric vehicle charging solutions for commercial and industrial customers, assisted in the completion of the project. Alisha Real, UNFI’s VP of ESG and Social Impact, states that the Howell solar array, along with investments in LED lighting, have already lowered the company’s indirect Scope 2 emissions and will further aid in achieving the 2030 goal of 30 percent reduction in energy intensity.
