Wheatsborough Solar Contracted Under Microsoft–Volt Energy Justice Framework

Source: Markus Braun. Apex Clean Energy has agreed to a contract for its Wheatsborough Solar project of 125 MW in Ohio, through the Microsoft–Volt Energy Utility Environmental Justice Framework, a platform overseen by a minority-owned solar energy development firm. This arrangement was created with the intention of using corporate emission objectives to aid environmental justice and foster diversity and community initiatives. The power purchase agreement (PPA) aims to promote a more fair sharing of the benefits of the clean energy economy. A portion of the revenue earned from the PPA will be donated to the Sharing the Power Foundation, which is dedicated to environmental and economic justice in historically disadvantaged urban and rural areas. The project will also finance initiatives for community and conservation and foster clean energy workforce development through Apex Conservation Grant Program. “The vital task is to develop renewable energy projects that are dependable and sustainable; and focusing on fair deployment will boost the overall impact of our industry,” states Ken Young, CEO of Apex. “This agreement empowers Wheatsborough Solar to exceed megawatt production, generating a significant and lasting influence in the local community and further afield.” The project is anticipated to be operational in the first half of the upcoming year.
